Better late than never.

by skip2468 @ 2008-03-31 - 01:54:46

Monday- 1.30pm. Believe it or not we are being blessed with a little rain. It certainly won't overcome our critical drought conditions, but I remember well that beggars can't be choosers.

As we set out to do our shopping at 10am I noticed a few very tiny raindrops appearing on the windscreen. They were'nt worth bottling and we thought no more about rain till we came out of the supermarket at about midday.

We didn't mind wheeling the trolley to the car in the light rain, but as we packed the goodies into the boot of the car, the rain became heavier and we got a 'good' drenching. In my haste I ended up tipping a tray of eggs over and cracking quite a few.

We enjoyed scrambled eggs for lunch. Chives and vegemite added to the flavour and my mis-adventure was soon forgiven - well I hope it was-lol.

Weather in Ahmadabad, India and other things...

by firelight @ 2008-03-30 - 08:49:10

It has started becoming really hot out here. The temperature today promises to reach the maximum of 40 degrees C and a minimum of 24 degrees C.

Time to get the Air Conditioner working. ;)

Did you know that Mozilla offers every minute temperature change right on your web page? All you have to do is get the add-on on your tool bar.

The usual promise.

by skip2468 @ 2008-03-28 - 23:04:09

We are promised lots of rain this week-end to break our severe drought conditions. At 11am on Saturday there are a few clouds in the sky but none are threatening.

Watch this space - lol.

Hot, hot, hot.

by skip2468 @ 2008-03-26 - 21:15:49

getimage.aspx

This Thursday morning continues to follow the local trend with a promise of another hot sunny day and a continuance of our drought conditions in the Waikato.

Though our autumn equinox has passed, we are experiencing one of those so called very long 'Indian Summers' - if you know what I mean - lol.

Update

by skip2468 @ 2008-03-26 - 00:26:27

A cool morning 15.5C at 7.30pm. However by noon 23.4C with a gentle breeze, ideal for drying our washing.

Still drought stricken.

by skip2468 @ 2008-03-25 - 00:40:21

desert
Rain to the north, rain to the south, rain to the east, and the Tasman Sea to the west, but still no rain for us. Who cares anyway.

WONDERING?

by skip2468 @ 2008-03-23 - 23:19:19

Statistics show that we are fortunate to have many visitors. However, nearly all are passive and obviously reluctant to participate in any way.

Present day human nature I guess - or are there other reasons. If so, what could they be?

Lots of weather

by tylluanpenry @ 2008-03-23 - 00:32:12

Today the weather was - well, plentiful..... snow, sleet, rain, sunshine... I think the only thing we didn't have was fog (though we had it a few days ago.)

The problem with our weather is that it has no sense of proportion. It gets carried away with itself. It can't just rain for a single day, it has to rain for a month (or maybe two.)

That said, this is a beautiful place to be. Weather permitting ;)

Saturday

by skip2468 @ 2008-03-22 - 09:38:32

Our wonderful weather has continued all through the week. The days are still too hot but with Autumn now half gone, the mornings and evenings are cooler and much more comfortable.

No complaints

by skip2468 @ 2008-03-20 - 11:08:27

Another calm, sunny, hot day. Ideal to do what had to be done. Took Pam to the doctor and picked up my desktop Acer PC after its last one year guarantee check. A free new mother board made the exercise worthwhile.

Welcome relief.

by skip2468 @ 2008-03-19 - 02:27:30

Today it seems is the first cloudy day that we have enjoyed for ages. A very welcome relief from the blazing sun.

At 2pm today Wednesday, the temperature is down to 23.5C instead of climbing to 30C and above. A very pleasant day indeed, fine, calm, and warm. We are certainly grateful for the small mercies.

Let's put the forecaster to test..

MEETING UP WITH THE PAST

by menhir @ 2008-03-13 - 22:43:57

When I first came to live in the remote wilds of Scotland, the relatively small graveyards placed in the middle of nowhere, were a constant curiosity. Churches were not adjacent nor necessarily within view of these grave yards.  It was even more curious to me, to find that the isolated grave yards were 'invisibly' linked to a particular church.

I was used to urban living where the majority of churches of whatever Christian persuasion, were big edifices with enormous spires reaching high, were surrounded by graves of people who passed through a long time ago and some who were more recent. There were  municipal grave yards that sprawled for miles, where the departed were interred after a religious service elsewhere. This seems to me,  a more generic arrangement than what I see around me today, here, in my part of Scotland.  We do have a municipal grave yard which has a view encompassing all  the churches within the town.

Most of the graveyards not physically surrounding, or lying immediately adjacent to a church, are the ones I have seen in this part of Scotland. That being said, I should mention I have seen variations on this theme elsewhere.

In Quebec, we found a church yard with no church anywhere in view.  Le Mairie was visible but closed; there was no church.  When we investigated, we found the majority of the old grave stones bore very familiar, local Scottish names.

Welcome firelight.

A very warm welcome to firelight. What a very pleasant surprise to find you listed as a member of our Weathercheck group. We look forward to you keeping us up to date with the rather unique weather conditions in your part of the world.

At 11.40am the cloud is breaking here and we hope that we have a fine sunny day ahead. At present the house roof is receiving its finishing touches and we hope that the weather does not turn against us.

ANGRY WEATHER

by menhir @ 2008-03-12 - 21:41:10

So, here in the North of Scotland we haven't had the storms, gales and floods that are wreaking havoc in the South and the North of England.  Haven't we? Well, yes we have, though not at the same point in time... Where I live, we are regularly hit by all sorts of harsh weather. We don't see snow as harsh, unless it develops into unusual proportions and we are cut off from our lifeline roads.  We are always unhappy about ice with our difficult roads.

We've had a grotty few days, then, a few hours when Spring felt as if it had sprung. Mother Nature was teasing us, a cruel tease. Today we've had stair rods of rain, the wind has been gusting up, growling and developing in to a roar. We are concerned about flooding here. The sea is close by, the rivers are in spate, a burn on the slope behind our house has filled and is racing with high volumes of water rather than its usual trickle. The water tables are high, lochens (small lakes) have formed on land because water has never really been able to completely drain since last year.

Scottish building regulations have been stricter than the English ones, demanding more security in the building of a property. We were exceptionally lucky, all our roof tiles were individually nailed down, instead of one in three. We have, so far, in 21 years, never lost a roof tile. Other things have gone adrift and a concrete garden wall has collapsed, while our roof has (all digits crossed) remained intact.

Let's see what tonight and tomorrow brings.

Weather Forecasts

by skip2468 @ 2008-03-12 - 11:50:05

According to our latest TV weather forecast tomorrow (Thursday) will be fine, though there may be a shower or two at night.

Let's hope that for once the forecaster is correct, as tomorrow is the day that the re-coating of our house roof will be completed.

Do you ever get weatherchecks from the TV or radio and if so how much faith do you have in them?

The Rain Came

by skip2468 @ 2008-03-11 - 18:53:35

Has the weather ever fooled you?

Well it fooled me yesterday. As promised the heavy clouded skies brought rain. The rain began to fall as 12.20pm and the breaking of our long lasting drought seemed to have arrived at long last.

With high hopes I moved out to the back porch to enjoy the occasion. The shower was all over within ten minutes and by 12.30pm the clouds were clearing, to make way for another sunny drying afternoon.

Life gets tedious, don't it?

Our Weather Change.

by skip2468 @ 2008-03-10 - 22:35:58

Firstly, a very warm welcome to tylluanpenry, a very treasured blog friend. We look forward to your weatherchecks as your time allows.

For once in a blue moon the forecaster may be correct. Though we have calm and fine conditions at the moment the sky seems to be in full cloud, with the rain threat moving in from the west.

Being in a declared drought region - fingers crossed.

Weather Change.

by skip2468 @ 2008-03-10 - 22:13:58

10am. Tuesday - 16C outdoors here at 9am. this morning. Fine and calm but cloudy. Forecast is for long awaited rain during the next couple of days.

We certainly need plenty of rain as we are still in the midst of a drought and this region of Waikato is one of New Zealand's leading farming areas.

We can only wait and hope.

Hamilton New Zealand

by skip2468 @ 2008-03-09 - 21:54:31

Firstly a very warm welcome to SunilBLathkar. Please keep us up to date with your weather and your other news.

After a fine and calm week-end, Monday morning is a delight to behold. Not a cloud to be seen and the temperature is rising quickly from about 15C earlier this morning.

The foliage is moving freely in nearby trees, which indicates that we may be in for a breezy day for a change. A really good day for getting the washing dry.

Fine and Sunny

by skip2468 @ 2008-03-07 - 21:59:47

9.30am Saturday. Fine, calm and sunny, though the morning Autumn chill is beginning to become apparent. Today is the fourth day of the five day cricket test here in Hamilton and England is struggling to survive against New Zealand.

Saturday's Weather Forecast.

by skip2468 @ 2008-03-07 - 09:06:03

Here is our weather forecast for tomorrow:

Saturday March 8 - Sunny - Min10C - Max24C - Chance of rain 10% - Frost risk Nil - UV Very High.

Hamilton City - New Zealand.

Better Weather

by skip2468 @ 2008-03-03 - 01:34:16

1pm Monday - Outdoor temperature is 23.6C

Though we had a light fog early this morning it cleared quickly and we have a clear, calm, warm day.

Weather conditions are ideal to start the house roof work. The water blasting has been done along with some minor repairs. Tomorrow, weather permitting, the re-chipping will begin and will be hopefully completed - fingers crossed - lol.

The Change has arrived.

by skip2468 @ 2008-03-01 - 11:44:50

Yes, the northerly change has arrived with the promised gales but not with the promised very heavy rain which is very much needed. We were blessed with persistent light rain for a few hours this morning but that will certainly not break our drought. Let's hope that the heavy downfalls arrive soon.
