Picture diary of the weather.

by workandbooks @ 2008-07-19 - 23:16:49

My picture diary for the week commencing Saturday 19 July 2008.

Today was a pretty grim day, much like the previous week. It rained all morning, then cleared up in the afternoon. Only the rain cleared though, the clouds - well they've been around for most of July.

Citystadium

This is City Stadium in Manchester. Now the home of Manchester City Football Club it was built originally to host the Commonwealth Games in 2002. The building is only 6 years old and yet it looks so shabby, it certainly hasn't weathered well and the Manchester City sign on the front is hardly visible.

sculpture

What's that thing against the backdrop of the black leaden sky I hear you ask? A large palm tree? No - that is a sculpture - apparently. Placed there about the same time as City Stadium was built. It's red rusty now and looks so...erm...elegant.

A gloomy sight indeed very well illustrated with your top photos. Yes, a very threatening scene indeeed.

We are looking forward to better weather conditions for you on your day two.

Though it threatened, it never actually rained again that day. In fact we had quite a clear night last night once it was dark. Was quite chilly though.

Ugh! rusty spikes
You would have thought they would have applied a rustproof Zinc coating or summatt! :))

I kept peering at it yesterday trying to make out if it was made of wood, but I seem to recall a couple of the spikes fell off due to metal fatigue, which is not very health and safety conscious.
